Cabling Upgrade at UM’s Saint Joseph Medical Center

UM St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC), founded in 1864, is a 218-bed Catholic, not-for-profit regional medical center in Towson, Maryland. The center offers a wide range of clinical programs and centers of excellence, including the Cancer, Heart and Orthopaedic Institutes, Women and Children’s services, and Emergency Medicine.

To continue fulfilling its mission of providing compassionate, leading-edge healthcare to all, SJMC engaged MacKenzie Contracting Company to upgrade and expand its data network. In turn, MacKenzie brought in its trusted partner, DataLink, to handle cable distribution for the project.

DataLink representatives met onsite with SJMC and MacKenzie technical staff to discuss the cabling requirements and to formulate an implementation plan.

The project called for a full 45U 4 post rack and cable tray build-out for the server room, which DataLink accomplished with infrastructure hardware from Chatsworth Products.

Also installed by DataLink was Berk-Tek cabling for 84 duplex drops and 12 single drops from the server room to termination points throughout the medical center. At each drop location, DataLink used termination hardware from Ortonics.

The success of the project was the result of the professional collaboration between SJMC, MacKenzie, and DataLink’s project teams; and more specifically, their expertise in designing and deploying IT projects on time and on budget.

Whether you need to connect a new building, a renovation, or a campus addition, DataLink is ready to team up with your partners, facilities team and architect to design, install, test, certify, manage and maintain the entire IT infrastructure.
